News this morning is all about Will Smiths’ meltdown at the Oscars where he punches Chris Rock.

As Christians, let us choose what we take home from the incident and our learnings.

It should not be about the incident for which the media will be all over it for days to come, but from the acceptance speech Will made. Will Smith talked about God and what God is calling him to do (not violence). This is strange for someone who just had an emotional meltdown. What lesson can we learn from what happened during the commercial break?

Will was comforted by Denzel Washington, who is very vocal about his Christian faith. I might not know what he told Will, but I think he pointed him back to God. Denzel helped Will to find strength in God, which resulted in a broken man’s acceptance speech.

“At your highest moment, be careful, that’s when the devil comes for you” – Denzel Washington (spoken by Will Smith) .

Those words are also true to us, and we need to be watchful.

When people are down, all we might have to do is point them back to God. Let us help them find strength in God.
